I am just setting up as self employed offering Crystal Healing and reiki sessions in the Norwich area. I am a single mum so have very limited resources to advertise with. What do you think is the best way to get peole through the door and using my services?

There are no short cuts to making a business successful. You have to market yourself. Advertising is great but expensive if you are just starting up so you have no choice but to do the cheap stuff. Walk around the area you have your office in and pass out fliers, meet people and make sure to offer them a reason to come in, not just what you offer in services. Try an open house with free food, a free class on what reiki is, does, etc.. try and offer one free session with you if they buy one or two (some sort of package). Unfortunately people aren't always open to these kinds of therapies so you have to be creative in your advertising. I know from 6 years experience advertising for alternative health care. Look up the author Ted Nicholas. He is from England. Great books for advertising. Do not try to brand yourself. It will never happen and cost too much. Word of mouth and face to face is the best thing you can do for now. The most important thing to remember is "Whats in it for me?" That is all the customer wants to know. Don't talk about yourself and all your accomplishments, tell them what they stand to gain. Good luck!

I do Reiki & Crystal healing also & want to take the plunge in setting myself up but haven't yet. I have asked others this question & the main answers I got were: by word of mouth, offering a discount on the first treatment (or even making it free), there are some websites where you can list yourself (and cost little or nothing to do so). Putting up some posters in places like doctors surgerys, gyms, that kind of health-related place. Apparently putting flyers through people's doors isn't that affective at all.
Also, get yourself some business cards & keep them with you at all times so you have them if someone sounds interested in that kind of treatment. You can get 250 free (well you pay postage) business cards from vistaprint (don't know the website exactly but a search should come up with the site).

I think it can take a long time to get oneself established & with regular clients, but once you do it will be worth it!

Good Luck!
x

Off a free 15 minute session, its amazing the amount of people who think nah that will never work, but have a session of Reiki and think wow that did more than the physiotherapist did ... put an advert in a local paper, offer a free 15 minute books for 2 days only and you'll be amazed how many customers you gain from it.

Good luck with your business, I really hope it works out for you x

You can sometimes advertise for free in local newspapers, put cards up in local shops and post offices, make some leaflets/posters and leave in various public places that attract your target market i.e. pubs, hairdressers, doctors.
if you contact a newspaper - instead of an advert ask for an advertorial so that they write a feature about your business - gives good coverage and cheap. If your a single mum, perhaps there are other mums you can target at the school/nursery or throw a party and offer freebies and vouchers....hope this helps

How about going round some of the local offices and offering sessions in lunch hours. Speak to their health and safety committees and get them to promote you as good for stress busting

Offer a complementary, complimentary therapy session. Should bring the punters in to experience what you have to offer. IF THEY LIKE IT AND YOU DO A GOOD JOB THEY'LL KEEP COMING BACK.

There are usually special newspapers that are given out in Health Food stores. See if you can get an ad in one of those. Or maybe they will let you put out some flyer's on a table.

Have a session with a pretty lady close to the window and make sure all can see...

Make two flyers out of one sheet of paper and flood your neighborhood with them! It sounds like you are giving away free services the way you worded your question.
