Anything to keep the daily disaster that is Iraq off the headlines.
Here's a few good reasons to apologize to the troops and their families. See if you can figure out who owes them one.
1. For asking them to lay down their lives for a lie and continueing to lie when those lies were exposed.
2. For pretending to support&care about the troops while you underpay, underman, underequip, & ask them to do a job that you did not train them to do.
3. For pretending to care about them while simultaneously cutting funding for their healthcare when they get injured.
4. For bungling the planning and execution of the war/reconstruction and asking them to lay down their lives playing referee in a civil war.
5. For using this war as an oportunity to enrich yourselves&your friends with corrupt no-bid contracts & sending cronies to oversee the rebuilding
6. For listening to pundits instead of the experts who told you that this would go exactly the way it has.

I can see people have their minds made up already and see what they want to see.
I will extend this to let more people answer.
thank you all for your answers even the ones I don't agree with. I am at least willing to listen to the other side and consider its merit

John Kerry has served this country in a war that was sold to us as being for our freedom. He at least knows what war is like. He knows how people didnt want to serve in an unpopular war.
Bush on the other hand was a draft dodger. He says he is a Christian and waves the flag and for most uninformed americans that is enough. Its the Britney Spears effect when she said,
"Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that."
Unfortunately so many Americans subscribe to that philosophy and to the Republicans implying that if you dissent, you are unpatriotic and anti-troops. No one is against the troops. I am a former Army Sergeant and I felt nothing but love even though I served when there wasnt a war. What people are against is putting our troops in harms way when its unnecessary. We are not fighting for our freedom in Iraq because Iraq didnt attack us. We are fighting for the agenda of big oil companies. We are fighting for Halliburtons right to make money from war. Last time I checked Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11 and he wasnt a threat to the U.S. Osama bin Laden was the Ace of Spades who set up 9/11. Our president let him get away. And now we are approaching 3000 deaths in Iraq for what???
Kerry was right.
Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, Rice needs to apologize.

You must be able to discern the difference between the actions of Bush and Kerry. Bush's job, whether or not you agree with his reasons, is to protect this nation. Kerry got caught in a situation normally reserved for Bush; he spoke without thinking. I have no doubt he did not mean to say what he did, but rather intended to bash Bush. However, his comments came at a bad time for his political party. If this was not an election year, Kerry's comment would have blown over with no direct apology to the troops necessary, but that was not the case. So, to answer your question, no, Bush should not have to apologize to the troops, and Kerry should not have had to apologize either. Bush is doing his job, and Kerry made a mistake.

I think Kerry misspoke but Bush mangles the language all the time and the republicans make excuses for it and think it is 'cute'
and forgivable.
I don't understand why they are acting like a pack of attack dogs on this. Why do they not get all in a snit when Rush Limbaugh says insults? Is it because they like to insult people with opposing viewpoints and not face the real heavy issues.
I think all the people who are trying to make this into a chance to vilify Kerry are hypocrites.
they do all the things they accuse others of doing and they project blame for all things on the 'other'
How Irresponsible and two faced of them.
How about we start talking about the problems and issues in a mature way and not this childish nonsense.
the reason people are turning away from the infotainment that pretends to be news is that we know the emperor has no clothes and we will not be fooled.
Lets talk about things whith the attitude of problem SOLVING as the goal and not this stupid throwing sand in the others eyes silliness

Kerry DEFINATELY needs to apologize for his comments... Bush has NOTHING to apologize for... Who is to say that ALL of the people in the military signed up just because of the war?
As for the question asked up above and the points made with it...
1. No one should be apologizing to us for putting our lives on the line... We are the ones that choose our MOS's (jobs in the military) and we are the ones that signed up in the VOLUNTARY service.
2. Many people think that we are being underpayed, but we are making a lot considering they pay for food, housing, time for leave, etc... Now of course that depends on rank and being married and things like that, but they do pay us well... In fact, I know a bunch of people that make more being in the military than they ever made in any kind of job in civilian world.
3. No one is "pretending" to care about the soldiers... we get full healthcare and benefits that are well deserved.
4. Like I said before, we were never told that we HAD to lay down our lives, coming into the military, we ALL have FULL KNOWLEDGE that we may be sent to war at any time...
5. I don't believe this statement at all... war is war, case closed...
6. I believe that we were going to be in war with Iraq whether or not Bush made this decision or not... War is innevitable... why blame one person...???
I know that many will not agree with what I say, but I have brought up points that people in the military DO NOT realize... Many people talk outta their ....... just because they can and then come up with ludicrus things about the military and their ways.... Find out before speaking!!!

I agree with you....but I feel it's ultimately Bush's responsibility...to apologize to not only our young men and women and their families, but to America as well! All the lives of our troops being lost on a war that will never end or change. People in those countries have been fighting over land and religion since the beginning of time, it is their heritage, right or wrong and my heart cries for all lost lives, on all sides. But mostly, my heart cries for our troops, I will always show them support, but NOT the a** who put them there! P.S. Did you see his daughters over there in combat...of course not! Maybe things would change if the people in power had to send their family members into war first??????

I find it strange.
Strange that people that are in and have been to Iraq see it far different that people here sitting in their lazy-boys. The men and women that have been there tell of a thankful people and want th US to stay until the job is done. They see school built Kids seeing doctor for the first time. Yes the is some problems but men and WOMEN voted for the fist time even if they have to run from gun fire. The men and women that have been there tell of press that work all day to find the one person that will say US GO HOME. I just find it strange.

Kerry needs to apologize to the troops for his statement. He needs to say that he wasn't talking about the troops, if he wasn't, and is sorry if he made it seem like he was talking about them. He should also stop telling jokes. He isn't very good at telling them anyway. I don't care what he says about the president. Kerry also voted for the war.

Kerry. He has said and done things for years that have hurt the military. Bush has on balance helped the military.
The work in Iraq from start to finish has never been based on lies. It was necessary from the beginning for many reasons that have been presented widely, but most of all because of Sadaam's refusal to comply with multiple UN resolutions. The world communtiy can not allow a country to viololate so many UN resolutions and get a way with it. If that were allowed all the time there would be no value in the UN. And the UN is a needed force even though it has a lot of problems.

bush. he lied as to why we went to iraq. he cut and ran in afghanastan & now the taliban is getting back into power - but he won't even CHANGE a losing plan in iraq or even come up with a plan for victory. i guess once the flowers and chocolates ran out, the iraqis went after the troops with bombs. but, you know, he stays the course. but i guess the republicans are willing to blame kerry (a guy not even running for an office) as to the troubles in iraq. they are always so logical.

Some of you people seem to have trouble remembering that our Military service is a total VOLUNTEER service... Anyone entering the service knows fully well that Iraq duty is totally possible...
As for as an apologize, sKerry most certainly owes one... His remarks ( and they were most certainly not used as a joke for Bush) were totally rude and shows his unabashed disdain for the military... sKerry is a total fool whos ego is so big that he thinks he does no harm...
