I realise that dishwashers are inevitably bad for the environment, but which brand/model is the least bad?

I'm not in UK so can't check UK symbols, I need named brands. Thank you.

I work in kitchen appliances industry, the best on the market are Miele dishwashers, german brand, expensive but last three times longer than anything else. Otherwise, Bosch dishwashers use the least amount of water per wash programme.
Dishwashers are actually more environmentally friendly than washing up by hand as you would need several water changes in a large sink to wash the same amount that a dishwasher can do in one go. Many of them have sensor washes now that monitor how large the load is and the soiling of the water so that they can adjust the temperature and amount of water needed accordingly.
Sorry, I'm a complete geek when it comes to appliances but I hope that helps!

We have a dishwasher which is not plumbed in. I always wash up by hand, but to make it efficient i only do it when there is nothing clean in the house at all, which actually means i never do it because my wife ends up doing it. This is a political issue, because it means a woman is doing the housework rather than a man. If i did it, i believe it would be friendlier than a dishwasher, but as it is, it would mean having to deal with stuff piled up all over the place and possibly decomposing food, flies and the like (though this has never happened to us), so it isn't very friendly to the domestic environment even if it is to the planet. However, dishwashers are supposedly more energy and water efficient.

look for the AAA ratings for energy efficiency.
I think that they use less water and therefore heat, and are therefore BETTER than hand washing for the environment.
cleaner too

Get off your duff and wash by hand.
It uses less water and absolutely no electricity (provided you have a gas hot-water-heater.)
