What kind of paperwork do i need to change my name back to my maiden name? Once my divorce was final, i never recieved any paperwork for the divorce. When my ex filed the divorce, I met him at the attorneys office and I signed a waiver stating that i agree to the divorce and I didn't need to appear in court. My ex called me the day that he went to court and told me that it was finalized, but i never got any paperwork. I went on the harris county website and was able to locate our file and it was finalized, is it normal to not recieve paperwork? I think i can go to the courthouse downtown and order the paperwork, but do i need it to change my name back?

In Texas, this name change is free. You have the right to your maiden name-just call the courthouse. This is easy-I did it in Dallas County.

That does not seem right. At the signing you should have gotten a copy of the terms of the divorce and it being official. I am assuming and hoping that you have an attorney. Ask him or her what is going on and do it quickly. Your lawyer can also get the ball rolling on the name change back to your maiden name. Sorry for saying so , but there is something weird going on with what you are describing. Divorce is a big deal , you should really get to the bottom of this quickly. You should not be in the dark. Forget yahoo answers , get some legal advice pronto.

You need to go to the Courthouse and they will give you the forms to fill out and file for a Name change, since you are divorced and the document is a public document, this should be no issues. You will need to pay the filing fee and make the necessary changes to the Social Security, driver's license and employer, of course.

When I received my divorce, my ex requested that I 'lose' his name.... Of course I was more than happy to do that.

Do not punish your children by hyphenating their last name. Especially do not change their name if they are already in school... Just because your marriage didn't work out, your ex is still their father! If his last name was good enough when the children were born, it should be good enough after your divorce. If you want your name to match your children's, keep your married name. What will you do if you decide to get married again? Name change again for everyone? That is insane and a good way to screw up kids sense of identity...

I too am divorced, everystate has different laws reguarding the change back to your madien name. First you need to get a copy of you divorce papers and if your ex did not state that you can not change it then all you need to do is take the divorce papers to your local social secuity office and request a change to your ss card and after you recieve it than you can go do the same with your driver lisense. In my state you only have two years to do so before you must have the case brought before a judge to request the change so i would not wait. i waited and now am stuck with his name because i can not afford to change it now.

in the divore decree it should have stated that you would go back to your maiden name once divorced. you should have rec'd a copy of the divorce decree. i would go to the courthouse if you did not. after you get the divorce decree stating that you are changing your name back to your maiden name you have to go to the texas dps in your city and shw them the divorce decree. thats all you have to do and your license will be updated. then you go to the social security office and bring your divorce decree and new drivers license and they will change your social security number. good luck

I think you have to go to a judge. It costs like $400 I think (don't quote me on that). I had a friend who had her sons name changed to hers instead of her bf. I think she went to a judge.
