anytime you don't want to get pregnant.
I've heard about the thing right after you deliver b/c cervix is still soft and slightly open but I had mine put in when my youngest daughter was 1 year old. She's 4 now so the things doing it's job.

An IUD must be inserted when your cervix is at least slightly open and softened. Most frequently it is during your period. I wanted an IUD while I was breastfeeding, and not experiencing regular periods. Sometimes they can get it in, but not this time for me. When she tried to insert I experienced extreme pain and absolutely horrible cramping nearly as bad as childbirth, so I absolutely recommend waiting until your body is ready.

Contact your OB/GYN. I know that my wife had to have 2 appointments when getting hers.

Also, I recommend the copper one that DOESN'T release a hormone. That one has worked the best for my wife.

Also, don't expect it to last the 10 years they say that it will. It will be more like 5-6. Then, you'll need to take about a year off of it before getting a new one.

1. Right after giving birth, while the lining of the uterus is thin.
2. During your period.
I got mine put in this year, and I got the one with progesterone in it. After talking with my doctor, we decided that this was the best one for me, so that I wouldn't get as many migraine headaches every month. My doctor is getting the copper one, as soon as she delivers her baby, because she needed something very strong. (She's very fertile)
If you have never had a baby (and I have not) it is very painful when it is inserted. Like the worst cramps you ever had x10. They say it's kinda like labor pains if you have had a child. After that, the pain goes away quickly. I haven't had any problems with mine and it's been in almost a year now.
Good luck!!

Just before lunch, sort of 12:45 ish.

On a marginally more serious note, I would sugegst speaking with your GP/Obs/Gyn guy.

I thought these things were "fit and forget" - fling the old copper-7 up there and the jobs done.

I'm not sure exactly if you are asking what age or what time of the month. I think you need to consult your gyno for thos type of questions

I had mine inserted at the beginning of my period. Was not painful at all.

I had mine done. You have to be on your period to get it inserted. I don't know why.
