I just answered a question about Kerry making our country look bad, and I was just wondering, since some on the right are worried about how we look to the rest of the world, do you think that John Kerry (a failed presidential candidate) or Iraq (a failed Bush war) makes us look worse?

Uh, Iraq. Come on now.

Offhand remarks blown out of context by the GOP propaganda machine in a desperate attempt to influence elections,

vs.

a hugely expensive, illegal, immoral war of choice that's lead to thousands of deaths, for which we have no viable exit strategy at all beyond "stay the course."

So what do you think. If you say "Kerry is the stupidest man alive" or whatever in response to this question, you prove yourself wrong as you say it - he's clearly not quite THE stupidest!

The war in Iraq provides an excellent tool for the fanatic islam propaganda machine so, in that respect the war is bad. Looking at the war in the long term and in the best interest of the human race, the war is a necessary evil.

Any United States citizen that lessens this governments position in the war on terrorism is not acting on behalf of their country. Their actions, in which they claim freedom of expression or speech are understandable but, in this case (the war) they should be mindful that our enemy expects to win this war and will utilize any statement made by a United State public official to make their case.

All expression claiming we cannot win, or are the aggressor, or that these are peace loving people (fanatic islam), are pulling the snipers trigger on our own troops.

And absolutely, I think John Kerry is part of the national problem. The reason U.S. citizens are in such disagreement is because of politicians like him that will turn a gaff into a political statement.

I think that if Bush apologizes to our country for acting like super man and proclaiming "Mission Accomplished" then Kerry can apologize for botching a joke. It amazes me that Tony Snow is giving us another snow job by holding a press conference on this when we would all like an accurate update regarding the true status of this unjust war. Bush needs to apologize to the families he gave false hope to with the mission accomplished bs. He should apologize to the families of nearly 3000 dead US soldiers who defending our freedom that is not at risk in Iraq, but here in the US where our borders have not been protected.

I think Kerry's comments make us look worse, because though it was a failed attempt at a joke, it is probably closer to the truth than we would like. Not that our troops are dumb, they I would expect that you would find that the average education of our soldiers in combat is considerably less than the national average. First, look at the age of many of those being killed. Many are just a couple of years out of high school. Also look at the fact that recruiters have had to lower their standards to get recruits. Also look at the noise the military made when high schools and colleges didn't want them recruiting on campus.

Definately the war in Iraq. Most people outside the US probably don't even know who Kerry is.

Why are you concerned about appearances? That has nothing to do with reality. People that want to hate or disdain the USA are going to do it, regardless. They can find or invent a reason. What Kerry did was make himself and his political party look bad. He has insulted the military on two other occasions that I remember. After Vietnam when he threw his medals away and accused the US military of raping and killing innocent civilians in Vietnam. Then again, when he made the same accusations of our military in Iraq. Why is it so surprising that he had the Freudian slip yesterday?

I really think there's no comparison here. War is a serious business. Kerry's rude & derogatory comment was an insult to our troops who are protecting his as- (as well as ours). It is not on the same level as fighting a war. So how can you make a choice between "apples & oranges"????

Oh lets see, A comment or war which would the world be more upset with? Do you really think the world gives a rat's about a comment when millions have died in a war brought about by a "selected" free world leader?

how about we look bad together as a group. or maybe we could just keep subdividing ourselves into smaller and smaller groups until it is just individuals. of course it make the US look like divided idiots. kerry made a bad choice of words and the republicans are stupid for jumping on it like they did. and i tend to vote republican. it is sad, for all parties. and yes there are people who will use sound bites of this to take cheap shots at the US. and as far as who make us look worse, neither and both. a divided country is easier to conquer.
