If there is no power going through the motherboard to the compents. Then no they can't hack your system. I would use some kind of encryption for the company info like PGP or some free encryption software. Here is an artical on encryption that is in plain english. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/encryption.htm This should help you understand it better.

Edit* I just got done reading the above posts I can't believe how people give out inaccurate information on here. Yes the DSL/Cable Modems are on but they have no storage type media(Memory) to save a virus to. So to say it will be on your network waiting is not correct.

1. No one can access data in a computer if the computer is switched off (specifically if the storage device is not connected to a running computer)

2. A hacker cannot access your files from his computer if your computer is offline (not connected to internet)

3. You should use some tool like wiper wizard to securely erase the document as windows does not "erase" the file when you delete it. It only removes the index of the file from file system marking the memory as free. The data in the "free" memory is still the contents of your file which can be retrieved with a recovery tool.

4. You are fairly secured from hack attacks due to zone alarm but it depends on the rules and exceptions set in the particular firewall.

1) If your computer is turned off, no hackers can access your computer.

2) If your computer is turned on, as long as your computer is not online, hackers cannot access your computer either. By online, I mean either having connection to the internet or having connection to a network (and other computers in the network may be connected to the internet).

when the computer is off there is no access to it through you or anyone remotely. The hard drive is not active therefore there is no access to it. You should be ok being that you saved it to a cd and deleted it from your computer..unless it is still in your recycle bin. empty that and you will be ok

If the computer is off, there is no way to communicate with it and therefore no way to hack it.

By the way, despite what others have said, you can't put a virus into a DSL network. It doesn't work that way. A virus needs a host computer.

I know that if you have a DSL network in your home or office that is always on regardless of whether the computer is on or not they can put Viruses in the DSL network so that when you turn your computer on it will be infected. I dont think they can get into the computer its self, when its off.
