i think the term sweet sixteen come from olden time when girl were expected to get married and have children at this age. Men on the other hand could do what they liked

i'm not sure there is an equivalent.
they lose their innocence a lot younger than sixteen, b them a girl or a boy.
girls mature faster but boys r catching up fast.
i've met 9 year olds who no more than i do about the world, being street-wise & life in general.
