I would strongly recommend Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. which is widely regarded as one of the most significant works of American fiction in the 20th century.

Mr. Vonnegut is both a novelist and satirist. I do not use the word Joy often but his books are a JOY to read, extremely insightful, intelligent, and funny.

Give ANY of his books a shot you can’t go wrong.

This was a book I read as a teenager. It brought me to tears because it deals with the psycology of how kids/teens were affected by the war.
