The plant based medical marijuana is still in use. The chemical alternative Marinol has caused death in laboratory animals because it does have toxic properties unlike the plant based form which is non-toxic and has never caused death in lab animals or humans. The plant based form is non-physically addictive and does not produce physical withdrawal symptoms like most pharmaceutical medications and even caffeine (yes you can die from a caffeine overdose) In general medical use of the plant is to improve the quality of life as an individual is dying from cancer or AIDS. It is also used as an appetite stimulant and nausea suppressant during the painful experience of chemical and radiation therapy.
