VERY rarely reticulated pythons have been known to attack and eat people in their native environment.... But it is a VERY rare occurance.
Other than that, yes. Snakes only bite when threatened. Their first line of defense is their camoflauge, then they will try to escape. If they are cornered many will hiss, puff up, hood, rattle etc... to try to scare you away. They generally only bite as a last resort or if restrained/stepped on. Many venomous species can even give "dry bites" where no venom is injected.

Reticulated Pythons have been known to pursue and attack humans, as a food source. But this is somewhat rare. As a general rule, snakes are only agressive when they feel threatened, or when some genius picks one up. Some species are more easily agitated than others, and are thus more likely to strike, but for the most part snakes want no part of humans, and will flee if given the opportunity.

Snakes do not attack people. Generally if you accidentally step on a snake, or nearly step on it because you aren't watching where you are going, the snake will strike. Snakes do not generally pursue and stalk and actively seek to kill or eat humans like they do in the movie Snakes on a Plane or in Jaws, sharks aren't that tenacious. Poke one in the eye it leaves and never comes back. It will not basically stalk a person. That's sharks and this is snakes but I was trying to relate it to another movie where whether it's snakes, killer bees, sharks, or whatever the director greatly exaggerates the desire of animals to harm us to put suspense in the movie.

Snakes attack when they feel they are being threatoned... would you try to attack something 100x your size if you thought they were going to eat you? It all boils down to survival of the fittest and snake have survived for millions of years.

Basically snakes don't attack people for no reason. They don't attack us for food either because they don't like to eat us and we're too big for them to eat. They attack when you're in their territory, annoying them or scared of you.
