This is an extremely complicated question... Some people might say that only complete psychopaths are "free." (Like Hannibal Lecter). We are all of us restricted in thought and action by social mores, by-laws, moral and doctrinal codes, etc.
Some have even posited that the limits of spoken language make freedom downright impossible. There is a word in Japanese that can only be translated into English by referring to "a feeling that one gets when walking through a forest alone or by watching a sailboat disappear behind the curvature of the Earth," whereas the Japanese version is so much more succinct. Every time you formulate a thought, you have a limited set of referents to make use of -- so the more we speak, the more circular we sound; in other words, the more we speak, the more we say nothing!
Lao-tzu, the great Chinese teacher, recognized the problem of language 5,000 years ago when he conceptualized of Taoism. He said that the minute we label something, we're taking an object with infinite possibilities and circumscribing that little piece of infinite complexity and wonderfulness down to a distinct, little "something" that now no longer reflects the original beauty of the universe!!
Chew on that for awhile.

I don't believe there is such a thing as "True freedom"... Unless everyone has the exact ideal of what "true freedom" is, its just impossible. You have heard this saying before right, "one persons trash, can be another persons art..." (or close to it)... one person right, is another persons wrong. My true freedom would be to just live a good life with no problems... but another person would feel, they don't feel freedom unless they kill anyone they want... maybe another would feel they have the freedom to rape anyone, or hurt anyone they please- to them that can be true freedom. If everyone had true freedom, just like giving everyone a million dollars... will go aganist everyones ideal of freedom. The only way "I" feel there can ever be true freedom, is when we die and go to heaven... where we are in unison of what true freedom means. As long as the wicked mind of humans exist, no such thing can happen... Because deep inside, humans have the desire to do what EVER they want... and what ever they want comes from the "heart", and the heart leaks only but evil. I'm sure some people will state , i only have good, and love in my heart... you are only fooling yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and honestly take a moment to reflect , and tell me with a striaght face whatever you may feel. I'm garbing nonsense here lol, i hope someone in the world understands....

Ah ... another age old question. I really don't think that there's such a thing as "true" freedom. For example, let's saw you want to make your patio larger but to do so you have to use some of your neighbor's land. Maybe knock one or two of his walls down. Now you're infringing on his freedom. Okay, it's a crappy example but I hope I'm illustrating my point. Our society is based on freedom but our governments create laws to restrict our freedom and keep us from getting too crazy with it.
Just a parting note ... Here in Canada we spell our words using British standards. For example, we write "neighbour". I ran a spell check and it insisted that it's spelled "neighbor". Does that infringe on my freedom?

There is no such thing in this world. 'True freedom' would be absolute freedom. In other words, the ability to do anything you wanted whenever you wanted for as long as you wanted. Anything other than that is not 'true' freedom.

True freedom is me going to the store buck naked and not getting arrested
True freedom is me calling my mother law and cussing her out and her not saying anything ever again to me
True freedom is me cussing my boss out and him letting me keep my job
There is not true freedom until I have accomplished all the above

True freedom is when you do not need to eat to live, or be afraid of catching a cold when out in the biting winter wind. It is a spiritual state of being.

Freedom from a philosophical viewpoint is a paradox with three general arguments(accepting all three is a contradiction yet no one school of philosophy has been able to solve the paradox)
Though there is one point all(or almost all there are always exceptions) philosophers agree on:
Unless one is free, one is not morally responsible
