Hey prasan jain,

Do you mean Native American Indian monuments or India monuments?

For Native American, they should be declared Federal Monuments. Then they are under the protection of the Federal Government.

Generally, educating the people that come in contact with the monuments will help to preserve them too.

Here are pages to surf through on Monument Preservation.

Based on my travels in India: Get the homeless beggars off of them. The areas that are protected need to be managed better.

The Taj Mahal was well managed because they restrict the people that they allow into that area. Just any fool can't wonder around and mess things up. Although there were signs asking people NOT to go onto the grass, but EVERYONE was on the grass.

The problem is that a lot of money to protect the monuments comes from tourist dollars, but many unsavory individuals show up in hopes of begging or scamming a tourist for some money.

At one place they had a novel idea. An old man with a long stick chased off the street urchins that were harassing people. Limiting the number of people roaming the historical sites will help reduce senseless wear and tear from the excess traffic. The money raised from tourist dollars should be funneled back into the preservation of the monument. This, combined with government funding should help maintain them for future generations.
