|5x-1|<14
Note instead of 14 being greater than, it's greater than or equal to 14.

You set up two inequalities and solve each inequality separately.

Inequality one: 5x-1 <= 14 (drop the absolute value symbols)

Inequality two: 5x-1 >= -14 (drop the absolute value symbols, reverse the inequality and make the 14 negative)

By the way, you have a contradiction in your question. < is the less than sign, but you refer to it as greater than. Just a little confusing.

Hope this helps. :)

-2.6<= x <= 3

Because it is the absolute value, you must consider both

5x-1<14 which gives x<3

as well as the negative equivalent

1-5x<14 which gives x>-2.6

Remember that when multiplying by a negative number, the direction of the sign changes. Hence, x must be between the two limits.
