Batteries have a limited life span and can only be charged and discharged so many time before they die. It might very well be charging the battery but if the battery is not holding the charge it is draining faster than it is recharging. You may very well need to buy another battery especially if you have had it for over two years.
Hope this helps and GL :-)

Because you have left it plugged in it has gone into a saturated state, and will no longer hold a good charge. You will need to buy a new battery, and then don't leave it plugged in all the time. Charge it up and then use it till it is almost dead, then re-charge it. You can leave it plugged in while you are using it, but I would not suggest doing it all the time.

It relies upon on the form of your laptop and the advantageous properties that incorporate it. There are actually fashions of laptops that incorporate power-saving advantageous properties. Mac chargers, case in point, can come across while they're plugged in and turn off immediately while the laptop isn't in use. a minimum of it is what i've got heard. related to what you are attempting to do, i might advise you do away with the battery (if that's detachable) while you are going to apply your laptop for 8 immediately hours. keeping it plugged in for that long will ultimately injury the two the battery or the charger. i be responsive to because of the fact i've got experienced that with 2 of my previous laptops. wish this facilitates.
