The Brazilian Legal Amazon consists of the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondonia, Roraima, Tocantins and part of the states of Maranhão and Mato Grosso, covering 1,577,820 km2. The Brazilian Amazon constitutes 60% of the entire Amazon region (Pan-Amazonia); it has the largest river in the world, the Amazon, which is ca. 6500 kilometers long; it boasts the greatest diversity of fauna and flora on the face of the planet;
its area is equivalent to more than 30 European countries;
it has the biggest mineral reserve on earth;
it has more than 20 million inhabitants.
