I disagree with the Sex Pistols, and I know I'm going to get a lot of thumbs down for this. They were created by a business man just like every single boy band. He found guys that looked the part and didn't give a squat if they could play or not.
The Ramones, Elvis Costello and the Attractions and early Talking Heads were the best. And as far as most music historians are concerned, New York Dolls were the one of the first Punk Rock bands.
All this new stuff is punk light. It sucks.

Do you truthfully believe rap is the one form of song that talks approximately truly matters?! You definitely have not heard whatever then! Emo is for *******, steel is for ******* with lengthy hair who put on all black, and rock is eh, the whole thing at the present time is pathetic. Punk is the nice style of song I've ever heard! Not since of the song by myself, however the lyrics. No no longer each punk band sang approximately politics, simply the popular ones did. Great bands like Minor Threat, Black Flag, The Faith, S.O.A, Urban Waste, Negative Approach and a lot more, sang approximately exact truly matters all of us deal and feature handled. All those retarded ******-*** bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Simple Plan, (I believe homosexual simply typing them) are NOT punk rock! I haven't any proposal why they are categorized as that, it is EXTREAMLY insulting. Have an open brain, do not stereotype song simply by listening to the ridiculous mainstream ****. Some steel is fine, alot of early rock is fine, hell, even emo used to be well while it first began (while it used to be "emo-center"). Oh, and I believe rap is crap. I do not see whatever musical approximately it besides for a steady worrying beat sound and a few man blabbering any phrases that rhyme. And I'm a Christian too, however I believe gospel song is homicide to hear. I recognise what it talks approximately is well and I'm no longer dangerous mouthing that, however a minimum of positioned attempt into your song as a substitute of contemplating a first-class "entire a few" melody and throwing in a couple of "I love Jesus' " and "compliment the lord's". This grew to become out longer than I anticipated however I wish I acquired my message throughout.

I agree with you 100%. The only people I have really noticed thinking Good Charlotte and Green Day and stuff like that are these little 14 and 15 year olds who just got through listening to Shakira and Britney and are now told that Good Charlotte is a good band to listen to if you want to listen to punk and that it is cool to listen to them.

I agree with your outlook and almost all of your choices...

I would however remove the NY Dolls from your list. They were never punk for very long... They were glam. HUGE difference.

How about The Dead Kennedys, Henry Rollins, The Clash, and GG Allen?

Everytime someone tries to tell me that Avril Lavigne and Greenday are punk... I just laugh.

Your list of punk bands is right on the money. The stuff that is called punk, today, doesn't really qualify as punk. I don't think there is actually a genre for it, so it's just labeled punk.

I totally agree with you & I like the bands you listed but you left out The Damned & The Buzzcocks! Too much of todays corporate power pop gets labeled as punk....crap like Green Day & Fall Out Boy, etc and that's a crime!!!

Don't forget Black Flag. The other bands you suggested are the absolute Punk Bands. The music industry is trying to revive punk by shoving what they perceive as punk down our throats.

You gotta keep in mind that there are many sub categories to "PUNK". Good Charlotte is definitely not in the same category as the misfits or anti-flag, but i would consider it pop-punk. So go figure...and by the way, the horrorpops are probably better categorized as Psychobilly!

That stuff is OP - Original Punk...

Green Day, Offspring, Rancid, Good Charlotte, Sum41, Blink182, etc...that stuff is STILL punk, just a different era.

Much like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were rock bands, so are Tesla and Guns 'n Roses, just a different era.
