If you think that is bad get a list of the Stella awards given yearly to the most frivilous lawsuit here in America named after the woman who sued McDonalds over the "hot" coffee.

It is because we are a very confrontational society, in general. Haven't you noticed our foreign policies? I heard the person suing the Stones is calculating the cost for each and every ticket holder. What a jerk. They don't comprehend that while the Rolling Stones is a product they are pruchasing (so to speak) it is made up of people--and people are sometimes unable to perform as planned. There is always a risk of this when you buy a concert ticket.

hello from America!
Well, i can tell you that you are right. Throwing a lawsuit at someone is far too common place.
We have become fat, lazy and demanding. If our needs are not immediately met we cry and complain until they are. If we do something wrong we immediately push the blame on someone else. If a simple accident occurs, someone must pay the price! We have also lost our voices.
I can't tell my neighbor to turn down his music at 3 a.m. because he'll flatten my tires or poison my dog, so i don't say anything. But i do call the cops....they can handle it for me.
Get this..true story. I work at a hospital where a nurse was forced to quit after telling a junior staff-member to do a simple task...move his chair from the hallway because it was creating a fall hazard for the clients.
he immediately ran to administration and complained that the nurse was harassing him. They took his side...she quit a few weeks later because now everything she said to him turned into his complainig of harassment.
We are a fading country. We are no longer world leaders or innovators. We are fading.........

I'm guessing the Stones thing was a class action lawsuit. Since it wouldn't make sense for any single ticket owner to sue(even just the lawyer might cost more than $800), they have one attorney bring a single suit against the Stones on behalf of ALL ticket holders.
If you have 25,000-30,000 ticket holders suing together, plus damages for pain and suffering, inconvenience, etc, the figure makes a little more sense.
As for the McDonald's thing, I couldn't agree with you more. It's a great embarrassment for my country. Too many Americans are willing to fore go personal responsibility in their lives, preferring to let the government take care of them. This is just one particularly grotesque manifestation of this trend.

Because they are incapable of (1) making a point on their own merit and (2) accepting that their problem is indeed trivial. They take themselves far too seriously. OK here's the north of england take ... Mcdonalds made you fat? well it's like this ... you're FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT leave off the lard pies and lose the flab. I'm not saying americans have no sense of humour, well yes maybe I am.

This is not a general answer but the ethos of Americans is usually greedy with no give or take for accidents they pay a slick lawyer who only talk in telephone numbers because they to are greedy.
They are also greedy with the environment with no thought for the rest or the earth, how Mr Bush with his preaching about religion can sleep at night I will never know.

Because, many Americans believe that they are constantly being owed something, if, they don't get their way or are not being treated fairly. In the meantime, average Americans pay the price for frivolous lawsuits in tax dollars that could be better spent on education and health care. IMO, most Americans just need to grow a spine and suck it up!
