No it's fiction.
But the characterisation of the "Life & Times" was very realistic and representative of the era.
There were "Millions of Natty Gann's".
Some Not quite so dramatic and diverse an experience as the movie.
While many Other's real-life experiences would make Natty Gann's life look like a comic strip--so to speak.
I'm old enough that I grew up with people who were ages ranging from small children to middle-aged back in "Natty's Time".
My Grandparents for example were young adults w/ a young family around that time.
I got to hear 1st hand accounts,,visit old homesites, farms, businessess,,meet tons of people from all over, see many of the possessions they treasured & the stories behind that,,,,,,
It was almost like a trip in a time-travel machine with a guided tour
Journey of Natty Gann,,in my opinion,,was like a real-world slice outa the middle of all that.
Maybe not a "True" story,,,but it could not hardly be any more Real.
It wouldn't surprise me if somewhere,,there really was an Actual "Natty Gann" who lived that story to the letter.
Interesting time in America,,,scary & inspiring at the same time.
Most "school book"type of History Books dont do the period justice
Just my opinion,,for what it's worth
