I lived in Dallas for the past 12 years (now I live in Florida) and it really grew on me. I have been to San Antonio many times. It depends on what you like. I would say San Antonio is more down home, and friendly, closer knit in its community feel. It also has a much more Mexican feel than Dallas. Although Dallas has a huge hispanic community, the Mexican history of San Antonio gives it a real hispanic flavor. San Antonio is a lot smaller than Dallas. Dallas is much more manicured, image conscious, and somewhat antiseptic (don't get me wrong, I can't wait to move back to Big D). I think that the job out look is just as good in both cities. According to a recently published list of crime, Dallas was lower on the list (more crimes reported) than San Antonio, but I think that's just because it's a bigger city with more people. If I was you and my family wasn't already in Dallas, I would pick San Antonio.

I have lived in both San Antonio and Dallas or the DFW Metroplex ( I currently live in Ft Worth but Im moving back to San Antonio this time for good!!) and they are correct the differences between the two are like night and day.
Dallas- Yes it has business opportunities and varied shopping. But it also has high crime. You can forgo the Dallas area and live in a suburb but you will pay the price in commuting. The traffic is not as bad as L.A but its right behind it cause of the awful drivers. Like I said it has a lot of offer in entertainment but its mainly geared for the people who wish to live in that high class "be seen" lifestyle. you know its not about the party but where and who are you partying with lifestyle. So if thats what you want go for it.
San Antonio- This place is unlike no other Cons- very humid and yes it is very spread out but a 4 hour drive to the ocean. and the traffic.... well unlike many other cities like Dallas and Austin you have many shortcuts to take and do not have to rely soley on the freeways. And Dallas may have its cosmopolitan, champagnge crowd.
San Antonio has much more culture and way better food. Down home atmosphere where there is always a party. Although Dallas has a significant hispanic population it is not the same, many of the hispanics there are immigrants that just came from mexico and central america. This is different than the Tex Mex culture & history SA reflects. By the way I am a 5th generation mexican/american or as I prefer Texan/mexican.
Finally, whether you choose the city life of Dallas or the culture and personality of San Antonio... You're still Texas and thats all that matters..

San Antonio is the more interesting and "funky" of the two cities. It is a historic city established in the 1720's and has a majority hispanic population. It is very pretty although there are some areas of intense poverty. It is an inexpensive place to live. If you can get a good job before moving you can live very, very well! You will never really need to heat your home. It is warm and sunny year round with an almost tropical climate. If you like out door activities and public spaces, SA is great.

Dallas is really the opposite. It is more expensive with lots of business opportunities. You will most likely be living in a suburb with a high commute time and very little sense of real community. There is limited public space, few parks, and a very anemic arts and cultural scene as compared to Austin or Houston or Fort Worth. There is an arts district in down town but it will take some driving. Get used to sitting in a car if you move to Dallas. However, there are some outstanding restaurants and very hip places to shop. If you don't care for parks and public space and are a lover of shopping, malls, and air conditioning Dallas might be right for you. However, it is not a relaxed town - it is a place very much concerned with image.

For me, I find Austin to be the right balance between the two, but it is by far one of the most expensive places in Texas to live. You don't move here without some serious career advantages.

I love San Antonio because my friends live there; I live in Dallas because my job is there. (I'm from Austin.) San Antonio is definitely a lot cooler -- but Dallas is better than I expected. I found a good place to live in Dallas - a pretty decent deal on a brand-new apartment complex that looks too ritzy for me to afford, but actually isn't that expensive and is **five minutes from my job!!** and close to downtown, close to entertainment and restaurants etc! which is great because the traffic on the Dallas freeway is **awful**! Both cities have very good museums, as a matter of fact. Dallas's museums are better known especially when you add in the museums in Fort Worth. Dallas actually has much better access to good movies. The cities have totally different personalities. I prefer San Antonio but Dallas is OK.

San Antonio wins. everyone seems to be getting all overrated approximately Kidd in Dallas going 3-a million with him interior the line up. they have beat the grizzlies, timberwolves, and the bulls. precise now if any of those communities went on a 10 pastime prevailing streak they nonetheless does no longer be in an 8th place playoff place. The lost they have had with Kidd became against the hornets. A good group interior the NBA, now the Mavs have yet another good group to play. no longer in basic terms are the Spurs a greater physically powerful group then the Mavs they play in San Antonio too, ouch. Ginobli's on fireplace and Parker is a hundred% healthy now. The Mavs unfastened great in this one i does no longer be suprised in the event that they lose via 15.

I live in Oklahoma, so I have tons of family in Texas. And Dallas just doesn't do it for me, it's more high stress. I love San Antonio though, I have thought about moving there myself. Great Basketball team, less stress, more culture, It's a little less big city high stress. It's beautiful too! Great mexican food, the absolutely amazing Riverwalk. San Antonio all the way. It's closer to the ocean too!

When things come to Texas, Dallas is usually the causeway of it before it comes to the rest of Texas. When you look at Dallas, you have to take into account the entire DFW area. Dallas itself is not really that big of town land wise. What makes Dallas so large are the dozens of suburbs that surround it and Fort Worth. San Antonio is a tourist town to me. Dallas is more business orineted and has lots of entertainment to keep you busy. So I would choose Dallas.
