the ability to make people follow you

Leadership is the energetic process of getting other people fully and willingly committed to a course of action, to meet commonly agreed objectives. So, leadership is not just about style, or charisma, or forcefulness, although those things can help. Leadership is about understanding people, and especially about the process of getting people all pointing and acting in the same direction. It is about listening, and making a real "connect" with your potential followers. It depends on having a unique vision, making strategic choices, and designing and enabling an organization to get the job done.

Leadership - the skill or ability to make a person or persons follow ones own lead, idea, example etc. Some say that leadership is an innate skill in that it isn't something that can be learnt. It is not authority which means that "the lead" HAS to be followed and is unlike management which can be learnt.
