Is it true that some Americans (and some other Nationalities) believe that us Scots actually go hunting for haggis. I used to manage a pub and I was asked this on numerous occasions. I just used to humour them and tell them to go get a permit from the tourist infomation. Surely people can't be that dumb!

ahh the haggis eh. Ken can only go 'roon the hill wan way coz twa legs ir stumpier than the ithers. that's a classic. keep the myth flying brither, it's guid fir toorism (for all non Scots this is Scottish spelling and a language in it's own right). And for Pepper Pot girl... don't see many rounds being bought in English pubs. You are the tightwad *****! You perpetuate the myth that Scots are tightfisted so you can get free drinks when you bump into us. Bumming beers as usual. Arrogant a la typical.

Yup i can , live in Scotland myself -did you know though that the haggis has two legs shorter than the others this is because the haggis lives in the mountains and having two short legs on the same side helps them run round the mountains quicker albeit always clockwise.
Hint to catch a haggis chase it from the top of the mountain and wait at the bottom because they cant change direction due to the short legs and will eventually end up at the bottom - easy when u know how.

in dunedin florida,we have a haggis hunt once a year and yes it does require a permit, but since we are not in scotland the city commission stocks the area with haggis brought back from scotland,so far none have been caught they all high-tail it to canada to avoid the hot weather and hurricanes, but a "pub"near the causeway actually has photos of a haggis.

well, yes, I suppose some people will believe anything, if they dont have reason to check out the truth. I use to live in America, and there were a number of things I USED to think, until I moved to Canada. I dont think the haggis was one of those things I fell for, and I almost fell out of my chair from laughing at your question.

One of the funniest things I ever saw on TV was when "THis Hour Has 22 Minutes" went to the US and interviewed several people about ordinary things in Canada. One grandma was told that 75% of Canadian children cant find their home state on a map. She shook her head and said how terrible that was, and then her grandson said "wait a minute! Canada has provinces!" 7 year old boy knew more than his grammy!

anyway, 'nuf said.

Well, I'm an American and this is the first time I've ever heard of a "haggis" as something to be hunted. I only know it as a Scottish dish made of the lungs, heart, etc, of a sheep or calf, mixed with suet, seasoning, and oatmeal, and boiled in the animal's stomach. It's actually quite tasty.

As for the rest of you with your all-Americans-are-stupid crap, you can all p!ss off - not ALL of us are politicians, most of us are actually quite smart. *insert hurt look here*

Yup, they can and they are....I was on holiday up in Scotland once and told some americans I'd been haggis shooting...i told them that the legs on a haggis are longer on one side than the other, so they can stand on the mountain side without falling off....and that the further north you go, the colder it is so the hairier the haggis........

'The Goodies' years ago went hunting for Haggis. They chased it round the field in the sketch. Absoloutly hilarious! Bill Oddie, Tim Brook-Taylor & Graeme Garden. As good as it gets!
