I concur with you on the fact being at an event is more fun.The smell of the race, the roar of the cars and the loudness of the fans.
Now on the TV the right broadcasting crew will give you behind the scenes information and will inform you of things you normally would not see while at the race.
But nothing beats watching live.I've been in the stands at Talladega,I've been in the infield.I've been in the garage and pits.I have even driven a CUP car(NASCAR RACING EXPERIENCE)
at 165 to 175,and there is nothing like being there.

I agree with you that it's awesome at the track, but when you're at home watching TV, the weather doesn't matter (snow at Bristol this year). You can eat or drink whatever you want for free.
You don't have to sit in a parking lot for 3 hours (hello, Bristol and Charlotte) to get out of the race.
For some races -- especially road courses and super speedways (unless you have the best, most expensive seats), you pretty much can only see a tiny portion of the track and the action. You miss almost as much or more than you do thanks to NBC's (nothin' but commercials) constant commercial interruptions.
So, for some races, being there is better but for some, I'd prefer the TV. Thankfully, there will be no more NBC next year covering the races and the other networks do a better job. I especially can't wait to see ESPN come in and do a bunch of races, as they are next year.
I nearly forgot -- getting the new NEXTEL gadgets that give you stats, pics and radio transmissions solve a lot of the probs of not being able to see all the action at a track -- they are definitely worth the price!!
Best wishes,
Nathan

Actually I mean I like it on TV because u get to see all the action where when u r at the track only see ur view point and the track thats in front of u with other people blocking ur view all around.Honestly I have never been to a nascar race so it is hard for me to say but my dad told me it is alot better on tv than when u r actually there because u r hot and it is loud and all of that but I hope next year when the brickyard comes....I will be there!

Being at the track is definitely better than watching it on television. But, while watching the race, the strategies involved and the close action at the speeds they run attracts me. To me, it isn't like 'watching traffic' as you state. The more you watch the sport and learn about it, the more you can see the strategies played out.
I can understand your position. I wasn't that enthused about watching until I knew somebody racing locally. Then I started following it on television and soon I became interested in following a certain driver. My interest has grown from there.

It's awesome to sit at home, open your house windows, hear the race cars outside your window and watch the race on tv... I grew up in the Irish Hills of Michigan just a few miles from Michigan International Speedway! From home you see all the action in the comfort of our home and not have to fight the crowds. You don't miss the closeup shots of the accidents, you can see the replays, etc.
I do LOVE attending the races though too...been there several times, have marched around the track and performed the National Anthems, Rode around the track in a pace car... Party on the infield & camped over night!
NASCAR is awesome anyway you watch it!

I agree with you about being at the track & seeing the race in person...but, watching on the tube is good too because you can see what is actually going on up close. I've been to Talladega & it was absouletly awsom & would really like to go again, but I'll settle for the TV until such time.

If you like standing up the whole race and have beer spilt on you from the drunk fans and at Pocono only see the cars on the front straightaway and the first turn and after the race is over sit in traffic for 6 hrs. to go 8 miles and burn your brake light fuse out then I guess it's fun!, I'll sit at home and watch it anyday rather than be there.
