One ton of refrigeration is equal to 12,000 BTU's. Fractional tons are easily figured out with simple math. A 2 and 1/2 ton unit would be 30,000 BTU's.

Completely different values. A ton is a measured mass while a btu is used to measure energy. This might help though 1 BTU = 778 ft-lb. 1Ton = 2000lb. So in comparison there would be 2.57 BTU in a Ton. 2000/778=2.57

BTU (British Thermal Unit) It takes 12,000 BTUs to make a ton of ice or a ton of ice gives up 12,000 BTUs as it melts. The answer to your question is 12,000.

I used to be a truck driver and back in 2007, drove through a freak Ice/Snowstorm in Waco TX, in may. It was the strangest looking sight I ever say. Trees in full bloom, full green with snow on the ground (at least 3 inches). Also in southwest MO, Ozarks (I live in St Louis area), when coming home, entire forests were destroyed because of that freak ice storm. It looked like a nuclear bomb hit the area the way the trees were, both bare, knocked over, or just tall stumps without branches.
