Generally a bar, that serves alcohol, & a mucical set up where you sing to the music tracks of popular songs. I hear it is popular with the Japanese, but I don't go to them, so i am not sure.

In Japan, there are Karaoke Boxes, where you and your friends can rent a small room with Karaoke machine in it for a few hours, and sing. The difference between Karaoke bar and box is, if you go to a Karaoke bar, then you have to sing in front of many people you don't know. If you go to a karaoke box you just sing in front of your friends, as you guys will be renting a small room. Since people in Japan are pretty shy, they don't have karaoke bars, but there are karaoke bars in Western countries instead of box.

There are many karaoke bars here in the United States. They are places where it is set up for amateur singers to have background music and try to follow written words to songs. They are quite popular and because most of the time they are also in places where they serve alcohol, can be quite comical.

Yes there are lots of them. People go to sing along to songs whether they can sing or not, it's mostly done for fun but there are people who are stars in their own mind. It's a lot of fun just get a radio with a mic turn the voice down and add alcohol and friends and it turns into a good time.

No but we have a Karaoke bear, its cuddly and wont stop singing elvis songs

yes there is, sadly, it is a bar where drunken people go and sing badly to backing tracks by other artists.
but the craic is mighty, my mate recently won first prize at one in ireland for singing kate bus's wuthering heights, lethal
