This totally depends on the music player..

Some mp3 players act as a removable drive when plugged into the computer. Thus allowing you to browse the drive and pull songs onto your computer..

However, some devices (ipod etc..)

Don't want you to be able to remove songs for legal reasons, so they lock this down,

But alas! There is software available that lets you move songs from an Ipod to your pc..

Actually Mp3s are files that were designed to be used on the computer in the first place.

Usually your device will come with a usb plug or adapter. Once plugged in to your computer it will appear as a new "small hard drive"

Then you can move the files from it to the computer and vice versa.
