i would definately suggest a water softener, it will ruin your hot water heater. also imagine what it may be doing to your kidneys if you dont drink filtered water,, yikes.

It comes from you water source. Hard water builds up calcium and lime deposits in your pipes, water heater etc. Install a water softner. You can install it to your faucets only or your whole house. This will eliminate the problem for you. You may also want your water heater cleaned out at the time of the water softner install to remove old build up. Most plumbers can do all of this for you.

The lime deposits are from minerals dissolved in the water. When the water comes into contact with metal under the right conditions, the minerals are extracted from the water and collect on the metal.
The easiest solution is to install a water softener which will remove the minerals from your water.

Check your hot water heater....it may be more the problem than just hard water...nine years could be it's life span..
Nothing is made to last anymore
If it looks to be in pretty good shape try flushing it
That should keep things running smooth for at least a year
