You're right about it not meaning 60% approval for Democrats. That is very true and people need to remember that.
You have to remember, though, that the rating Bush has right now is bad and it shows that the majority of hte country DOESN'T approve of him, right?
Democrats have lots of problems but their problems (for the most part) aren't hindering Bush. His choices are his own and therefore his rating is his own too. He's earned all this that he's caused. The question is, have our soldiers?
In all truth, if what Bush said was 100% true all the time then of course I'd get behind him. We'd already have gotten Bin Laden and stabalized Iraq, but they've miscalculated and mistakes happened. I know all presidents do it, but it doesn't mean we can forget Bush's failures.
Don't worry, it's not like I like Clinton either. You can't support a leader 100% all the time. That's just not American.

Just as we are seeing with this Kerry character, the Democrats have nothing to offer, other than hurling insults and Bashing Bush.
Even most of the answers posted here are insulting remarks made to the asker.
The Democrats don't get it. The only way to bring the troops home from Iraq is to defeat the enemy, get the Iraqi government up on its feet and ready to run their country. It has been laid out several time by the administration, and backed up by some democrats, that to pull the troops out prematurely, would be devestating to the troops, the military, the Iraqi government, and the middle-east in general.
The entire election is not about Iraq. There are many other issues facing the country. Border security, health care, immigration, etc...
Iraq is a work in progress, and should be left alone until the objective is met.
Why aren't the Democrats campaigning on the issues they campaigned on during the 2000 and 2004 elections? I'll tell you why, because they are reactionary, and have no vision. All they have are insults and innuendos.
And the Democrats say that the Iraq war is wrong for Americans. Well, exactly which war is right for America?

Just for the two points: your question lacks substance. First of all Bush's approval rating hasn't seen 40%, since your last wet dream. In regards to the Democrats (and I'm not one, nor Liberal); I believe they will become an added device of checks and balance, for a run a muck government with too much power in its hands. Ironically, I would like the GOP to establish other than National Security; why American voters should hold faith continuously for them? The economy, education, immigration, social security, medic care and high interest rates are on the minds of voters.
People are angry at the fact that Bin Laden hasn't been found! People feel betrayed about being led into war in Iraq with unsubstantiated claims. Why should the victims of Katrina want to support the GOP, this Mid-term election? Yet you ask, if the Democrats have anything to bring to the table. Understand this; many voters will be voting; "Anything But GOP", next week.

First of all we all need to stop thinking in terms of labels. All Democrats are not liberals just as all Republicans are not conservatives. In truth there are far more moderated members of both parties than the media or the wings wish to acknowledge.
Second, the answer to your question is yes. If you research candidates beyond listening to the ads against them you will see that there ideas they bring to the table. A large number of the "well we're not Bush" crowd are suggesting following the advice of the leaked Baker report and actively looking for alternatives to just trying to hold our own in Iraq. There have also been suggestions to pay attention to the Generals fighting the war as opposed to listening to them, ignoring them and letting civilian leaders handle the planning. Many Democrat candidates are pushing for tax reform which would benifit the middle class. Their opponents are calling this tax hikes because the tax breaks in place now primarily aid the top one per cent of earners.
There are tow even more important ideas they bring to the table. One is the idea that we need to re enter the arena of world diplomacy. That means we cannot badger every other nation into seeing things our way but instead need to actually talk and listen in our relationship with other nations.
The other is that we, as a nation need to end the divisiveness that permeates our society. This divisiveness has been the focal point of this administration. Look at the President's speech yesterday where he compared a vote for a Democrat to a vote for the success of terrorism. If we do not attempt to work together we will, not may, but WILL fail seperately.

That's my biggest problem too. However, I'm not impressed with an all Republican controlled government. Bush's office also makes him the Republican party leader, which so far has accomplished nothing but removing all the constitutional checks on the Executive branch of government. It would be nice to have SOMEBODY holding eachother accountable- even if it's just a bunch of useless democrats. As it stands we've got a Republican President, who appointed a Republican Supreme Court, and holds tow over a Republican Congress that's carefully given him everything he wants. I haven't agreed with what he's wanted so far. I never thought I'd say it, but it would be nice to have a congress who actually legislates again.

Anything different is better.
Its the same thing with the republicans who are running right now though, they have no definative plans for ending the war or stopping terrorism. Other than stay the course and defeat the enemy.
So no we don't have anything better to bring to the table unfortunately because our leaders are just as dumb as your leaders.

I knew you'd get the "honesty in government" answer. Sorry guys, the dems are politicians too.
This is their platform:
1. Amnesty for illegals (or a "path to citizenship")
2. Scaling back in Iraq (losing)
3. Repeal of tax cuts (that increased revenue)
4. Not "pandering to the Christian right". (abortion is still legal)
I just can't get behind it.
