Is Islamic Extremism caused by the actions of The West?
If so, then consider the following question. Why then, have non muslims in muslim countries (Kuffar or Dhimi's as they're insultingly called!) been persecuted, forcibly converted, murdered, raped and ethnically cleansed for the past 1400 years?? A process that is without doubt still going on! I am etnic Assyrian, Aramaic Speaking Christian from Iraq. Check out treatment of non muslims in mid east, north africa, asia etc. I contend that islamic attitudes are generall intrinsic to the religion, and not a response to the west!

You are ABSOLUTELY wrong and BIASED!
Islam is a religion of Moderation and not extremism.
All terrorism assocaited with Islam is actually work of anti Islam elements who are trying to kill two birds with one stone but people are gradually realizingl
Muslims treat non Muslims and minorities in the best possible way as even acknowledged by fair and honest Jews and Christians. If Muslims were using swords then all India and all Spain should have been Muslim.
The facts point out other way round. Who did world war 1, world war II and who is doing world war three now a days??? Who did Hiroshima and Nagasaki??? WHo did Bosnia and killed innocent people using UNO forces in safe heavens. ????? U r extremely biased and therefore unlikely to see truth. I hope I am wrong in this regard.

It is surely a mixture of a lot of things, including persecution past and present. Obviously the invasion in Iraq, and the war against terror in afganistan have not helped matters, but it seems that some are just using this as an excuse to act in this manner, and kill innocent people. How can any religion back people like that. No, these people have a tainted view of Islam, which they have, in their minds, misinterpreted to suit them. Anyone who can do things such as kill hundreds of people in America, Madrid, or London, or wherever, is either stupidly naive and easily lead, or needs a stretch of time in a phyciactric ward. But this is now, if problems like this had been registerd and adressed earlier, we could have avoided people thinking that the west's actions are an excuse to murder.

No, Islam does not incite Murder and terrorism, and you cannot say that it does. Both Muslims and non muslims have been treated badly, look at the treatment of jews, for example, but the west's actions have given these extremests a stage to stand on, and the media attention for their cause. So yes, it is the west, but it is also the east, and the minds of these people. We need to tackle terrorism together, but it needs to be done inside the extremest functions first.

As a Christian you are biased obviously. I am a Muslim and I always try to think from outside the box and be as unbiased as I can.

Not all Muslims are good- fact

Not all Christians are good- fact.

If you read the Quran, there is NOTHING in the Quran that incites violence of any kind. EXCEPT that if anybody attacks you because of your religion then you should defend it.

Prophet Muhammed (p.b.u.h) was a PACIFIST.

Islam means PEACE.

You don't know ANYTHING about Islam the religion. You know more about Islam by the MEDIA and the CULTURE of some Muslims and Muslim states.

Also you can't argue with closed minded people- you have your own views and I have my own but I don't defend all the Muslims the world, some of them are very bad people who deserve to go to hell. But for you to attack my religion is wrong. You can attack some Muslims but not Islam. If you want to start talking about what is wrong with Christianity I can talk for ages starting from your story of Evil Eve who tempted Adam and that caused millions of women to be persecuted - all originating from taht one belief. Allah never blamed Eve/women for the fall of Adam/man right to your hundreds of gay and paedophile priests. The Bible clearly says no gays but you have changed your holy book that often you can't remember anymore if they are allowed. Half the priests are paedophiles who abuse little boys. Nice isn't it? Is Christianity to blame for this? No it is some Christians who hide behind the religion. They are all humans and people who carry out their sick deeds for thier own ends using religion as an excuse.

You should read Chomsky for a much fuller account of Islamic fundamentalism, and the grievances of Moslems against the west.

As I unerstand it, Islamic fundamentalism arose out of the former Soviet Union's failure to accomodate Islam in the southern republics, and was exacerbated by their appalling treatment of the breakaway Chechnayan state. And of course, when the Soviet forces invaded Afghanistan Islam prove to be a uniting factor for resistance forces.

The other obvious instigations are the systematic massacre of Moslems on Bosnia, and, of course, Western support for the state of Israel, a country which has often wronged it's Arab minorities.

I can't go into all this in depth, but it is simply too simplistic to say Moslems=bad, West =good.

After all, it's western, and western backed forces which are occupying Middle eastern states; there aren't any moslem soldiers occupying western states

You suggest that anti-Christian attitudes are intrinsic to Islam, but this is simply not the case; Islam has a tradition of offering security and tolerance to Christians, a tradition that, sadly, is being undermined by the Wahaba sects.

Extremism is exacerbated by the actions of the west most certainly in countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq where the West has meddled for centuries. Having said that, no religion should advocate hatred towards others. It is hard to imagine any God who would agree with the awful events of 9/11 and 7/7. There exists no justification for killing innocents either singly or on a grand scale.

No, it is the 'religion of peace' that encourages the actions of the muslims.
The attacks go on around the whole world not just the West.
The West is just the biggest threat to their plan to rule the world.
