Who else would be completely pissed and ready to raise hell?

So, after talking to a few of you the other day, I decided to go ahead and take my son to the hospital. I got there at six o clock. Every single nurse there was telling me that i was over-reacting and that I was just paranoid because he sounded clear as a bell to them. (you could feel the vibration of his hard breathing by putting your hand on his back or stomach). I was getting more and more pissed, but I waited. I would not leave without seeing the doctor. ELEVEN THIRTY comes around and the doctor finally comes to see him. He immediately orders the nurse to get some mist thing to spray in his face to clear his airways. (he could see the way his chest was going really deep as I had been trying to tell everyone else). He then did xrays and said my son had pnuemonia.

I was in shock. I knew it had to be something, but pnuemonia? And for so many people to just write me off and say it was nothing?? He told me that my son

was very lucky that i didnt listen to anyone else who told me it was nothing. He gave him a shot and prescription and sent me home and told me to do a follow up with his doctor the next morning.

I went to the doctor with him yesterday morning and the doctor told me it was bronchial pnuemonia. He is now on three different medications.

You should have seen me in the hospital though. Especially when one of the nurses who said he sounded clear and i was worried for nothing had to come give him the shot, I glared at her and said, "Hm, doesnt sound clear now, huh? Guess you should keep your opinions to yourself if you dont know what you are talking about because some kid could get hurt because of that sh!t"

But yes...in a couple weeks he should be better. Please keep him in your prayers.

MInd you, this is my four month old (not even) son! I dont even want to imagine what could have happen to him if I had took the nurses word or my first doctors.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received a survey in the mail 2 weeks after an ER visit. With a sick baby and the nurses all belittling you, I'd have been on the warpath! I hope your hospital sends surveys too, but if they don't, write a snail mail letter to the head of the E.R. dpeartment. Their nurses are arrogant!.

You definitely did the right thing by not listening to those who told you it was nothing! In my opinion, a mother knows when something is not right with her child, and yes, sometimes it is nothing to be concerned about. Stick to your guns and don't listen to anybody, but your gut instinct. You are usually right. We can never be too careful with our precious children. One of my boys had pneumonia at 15 months. It was horrible and lasted for almost a month (the worst of it was over in 2 weeks). I too went through a lot of the same thing, everyone telling me he was fine, blah, blah, blah (my mother being one of them). Imagine how she felt when I called her from the ER to tell her he was there with a 105 fever and he had pneumonia! ANyway, as you can see, my point, go with your gut and don't listen to anyone else!!! Even if you take your child to the doctor because you think he is horribly sick and you find out it's just a cold, atleast you know you did your part!

Sadly cases like this happen day after day all around our nation. ER staff are overworked. Keep in mind they are only human, not perfect creatures and they too make mistakes. This is in no way saying you don't have the right to be mad - you do, you really do. I'm sorry that had to happen to you and your son. But on the bright side, at least the Dr was able to help you both. Hope he's okay. Good luck.

i would definately be highly pissed off. my two year old had a mild case of pnuemonia a few months ago and I know how worried you must have been and how horrible your son was/is feeling. I would file complaints to the ceo of the hospital. Good luck and I hope your son feels better
