Quite a few old French families claim to be decendants of mermaids. As for the photos, it is true that mermaids are not real, having been dreamed up by sailors at sea upon seeing sea lions and seals for the first time and then the stories and legends just took off from there. Strange, but true - HOW they thought seals or sea lions were half-fish, half-beautiful woman is beyond me.
