Poltergeist for scary, From Dusk till Dawn for action. For gore, there are a lot of bloody movies, but I have to give it to Saw--it sucked you into the movie best while you see the gory scenes, while the old slasher flicks felt unreal enough that their gore doesn't affect you as much.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is definitely the best scary movie. The last part of the movie shows real footage which makes it even scarier.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose, because you also have the question of "did it happen". But really, the non gory ones are the scariest. Like Sixth Sense and Skeleton Key.

I don't like blood and gore. That doesn't make a movie scary. It makes it nasty.
A good scary movie is "Ring I". I will never forget how it scared the crap out of me.

They're scary, filled with weird plots
and definatly gory.

There's this Thai film called Shutter. I think it's scarier than The Ring. If you could find a copy, you should check it out.

the best scary movie is prob..... idk
the ring was good - better if you have a large screen TV she is all of a sudden lifesize - scary.
Evil Dead was a good cult movie - cheap graphics made my GF cry in High School
Saw and Hostel is good they both make you think what you would do in that situation
