It was "Brown Skin Girl" by Harry Belafonte on his Calypso album. My parents played it all the time. The whole album was great, but this was the song that did it for me.

P.S. for Smecky809-Classical Gas was Mason Williams.
Spirit in the Sky was Norman Greenbaum
(and has since been covered by lots of people).

99 Red Balloons by Nena and Walking On Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves were my first two favorite songs I can remember. They both came out around 1984, when I was 4.

Probably "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles--my father bought me a transistor radio and it was playing when I turned it on. And earlier that day, that same song was in a Munsters episode I had watched. Very exciting!

The Gambler by Kenny Rogers - had it memorized when I was a kid.
I still love to listen to it, even though my music taste has gone much more rock over the years.
