Most of the people above just don't get your question: Regardless of what you believe you are ASSIGNED to debate that the rapist should be put to death so:

One argument that you could try is this:

It has been shown that rape is not necessarily a sex crime but a crime of violence and this person usually will continue to commit the crime and even escalate the violence so you would argue that more people will be harmed with this person still alive. (there must be some articles for you to cite about this)
You could also show that if prison was the answer then most prisoners get paroled at some point so if the criminal was too old for the sex organs to function they would resort to the violent portion of crime and still not stop committing crime.

Hope this helps and good luck on your debate!

Moral values are generally based in religion. All laws that are passed legislate morality. This is a difficult issue to debate for just that reason.

I suggest you take another route. Most people (but not all believe it or not) in our society believe rape to be wrong and punishable. Start with that thought. You may find references in the Bible (Old Testament law pertains to Jews and Christians alike with regard to punishment for rape.) I am not familiar enough with the Koran to know, but there may very well be something there as well. You might ask a Muslim about it, or research it on the internet.

Once you establish that there is a consensus about this being a moral crime that is punishable, turn to a different tact. Do the research on REPEAT OFFENDERS vs those who are able to be rehabilitated. You will likely find that sexual offenders of all kinds, including pedophiles pretty much ALWAYS go back to do the crime again eventually, and often become more dangerous and violent as time progresses. Pedophiles have been well researched and documented in this area. I'm sure there is info out there on men who rape women as well. Also, see what you can find on rapists who later evolve into murderers.... serial killers. I haven't seen it, but I'm betting it's happening too.

What does that mean? To me it means we either lock them up until they die, or we kill them. Why should my tax dollars support someone for 60 years of prison? (For this, check the costs of keeping one prison inmate per day/year.)

In the end, I do not desire capital punishment as it is a difficult thing emotionally to want for any human being. But I am a supporter of it for the protection of society. It does not go against the sacred writings of any major world religions, which creates a general consensus of society.

Those are my thoughts on the subject. You will need to do your research and present a good debate on this. It is emotionally difficul for most people to accept the death penalty.

Also: Know the opposing side's argument. One argument they are likely to bring out is that the death penalty is not fairly administered.... and frankly, it isn't. You must come up with a rebuttal for it. You might forcefully point out that the debate is not over the fairness in administering the death penalty, but whether someone, who has been proven beyond a shadow of doubt to have committed rape, should be put to death. Think that through a bit and see if you can form a strong argument.

Someone on the board suggested cutting off their members. Rap is not an act of sex, but of violence. Cutting off the member will likely lead to rape by instrumentation, etc. The VIOLENCE will continue because of the hateful mentality against the victim.

Good Luck!

you have your work cut out for you here, I personally do not think they should be killed, rather tortured for the rest of their days, but I will try and make some valid points for death.

1) people find it easier to sentence murderers to death, rape in a sense is murder. The victim has been violated and a big part of who they are has been killed.

2) rapists are violent sex offenders, key word, violent, it is probable that a rapist will go on to killing their victims.

sorry that is all I can come up with and those 2 arguements are lame. Goodluck

If i were you i would argue that rapists who rape underage people or children undoubtly deserve the worst punishment by law. Rape is second to only murder in terms of crimes and death is a deserving penalty in many circumstances. For example, rape of the deceased or comma patients deserves the harshest of penalties. A father raping his daughter is a horrific crime and any punishment short of death wouldnt be deserving.

Executing would be too humane. Ideally, all rapists should get a taste of the trauma they inflict onto others. Have them share a cell with a 350 lb gorilla named Buba that's hung like a rhinoceros.

While I have no problem with the Death Penalty, I believe that having someone locked up without any possibility of parole would be much worse than death. I can't even imagine a life like that with no freedom and no chance to live your life except in a very restricted way..

they should not be killed.. well ok, let's try that.. but they should be removed of the right of do that again.. on ancient days people cut hands to anyone who found guilty for robbery. Same treatment shound apply for this kind of peolpe.. cutting members.. some peolpe will think that's going backwards, but it doesn't neccesary mean cutting hands or anything else, we can cut human rights, moral rights, social rights, any kind of rights... after all, they did more that that when they decided to rape. "Dont's do the crime if you can't pay the time"

well i kinda agree and disagree - because all the cases that go into court arent all true, some women just make up lame things about others in order to have them punished, so if u were killing rapists, u might end up killing innocent people also... so i think they should be given like life-imprisonment and killed ONLY if they have found ALL of the proofs necessary......

They shouldn't be killed, but rather castrated so they cannot reproduce and on second offense they should have their privates cut off. All this as well as a life long surveillance program.

Sorry, I don't believe in the Death Penalty for any reason. I don't think that mankind should ever purposely set out to kill another human being. That's murder.
