Yes.

You wouldn't let a dog go through what some terminally ill people have to suffer.

I've seen a member of my BF's family dying of lung cancer recently. They had enough money for her to have the best care possible and she was still begging to be "let go" as she was in so much pain and her life had become a burden.

Imagine how much worse it is for those who can't afford to have the best private care?

Like I said, I wouldn't see my dog go through it, let alone a loved one. if they wanted to go then I would want the law to respect their decision (which can only be made by the terminally ill person). Otherwise I'd fight them every bloody step of the way!

"David"

- sorry darling but you'd better look up what Euthanasia is.

Euthanasia is assisted suicide which means the terminally ill person has REQUESTED it and wants help to do it painlessly and with dignity. Of course its "with the person's permission". It would be murder otherwise! Doh!

It should be legalized everywhere. Why is it that a dog doesn't have to suffer pain as it dies, but most people have to endure hell?

The only reasons euthanasia isn't legal now is because of religious dolts who want to tell everyone else what they can do with their body, and the fact that the death and dying process is now an industry that generates billions annually. Those reasons aren't good enough.

I think that if I was lying in a bed, was old and my only thoughts were those of pain, humiliation, being a burden on my family and being fed through a tube I would like to go peacefully. I think at the moment the most you can do is request not to be recuscitated (spelling?) but I think you can travel to places where it is legal and I believe a lot of people do. I think that if it were legalised then they would have to make sure that they were of sound mind to make this decision.

No, It kind of happens anyway however to make it a law gives some mentally ill people a licence to kill of the sick unnecceasarlly.

Like Dr Shipman and Co.

Most Dr's and Hospitals deal with death everyday and can usually tell when somebodies time is up. Basically a hospital, if they get you early enough can keep you alive on machines for years and years, no matter what condition your in.

They have to look at your age, quality of life, your will to live and your chances of a full recovery.

They can assist pain by injecting morphine. I think its a good idea for the person and their family to inject morphine in such doses that the person comfortably slips away without pain.

I believe that any civilised nation should be allowed compasionate ending of a person's life, as long as strict guidelines are followed. It makes sense that if someone is in dire pain, and will always be in this state, and who wish not to live anymore, be allowed their wish. After all, we put down animals in pain if they cannot be saved. Although humans are not like animals, the principle remains the same.

Yes of coarse it should. We all have the right to live so why dont we have the right to die.Why should goverment get involved with something that is inner you and nothing to do with them.If you were to ask someone to take your life for whatever reason it should be between you and the other person involved not tony blair or any politition.

yes but only for the right circumstances. if someone is dying and they are in pain and they want to die but cant do it on thier own they should have the right to some help in doing so. why should they suffer for months or years? if your cat or dog was in this situation they would be put to sleep. as humans we're meant to have more control over our lives so why shouldn't we have that right
