If you love Star Trek, you are a great American. If you love Star Wars, you are a dork.
This is just because the two franchises are based on different genres. Star Trek is Science Fiction. Star Wars is Crap!

If you dress up like the characters or wait outside the movie theater 3 days before the movie debuts, or you know what planet every character was born on, then without a doubt you are 100% a dork.

I love Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Stargate, loved FireFly (R.I.P) etc etc
I also love sport, films, my girlfriend (the most important in this list), socialising, getting drunk etc etc
Being a sci-fi fan doesn't make you a dork.

I think the most appropriate term is "geek." You may be a "dork," but it doesn't necessarily have to do with your love for sci-fi. You might also be a "nerd," but that correlates more to your academic abilities. So "geek" is the right term.
