Socks or Barefoot w/ Wool or Shearling Footwear?

I have been told that the natural climate control properties of wool will not work with a barrier like socks.

yeah but I have issues with foot sweat. Sweaty feet are smelly feet and then you have smelly wool slippers. I prefer to wear the socks which are easier to wash, and still feel my feet are cozy and warm.
