I have a friend I keep on calling her and she said dont call me I call you I just need some down time. I don't understand the word down time.

"Downtime" means time to rest, refresh, get away from everyone. Comes from any mechanical system, where the machine is shut down and the place is on "downtime" (unprofitable hours).

some time to relax from every day hectic rutines. She needs some time to herself witn no interaction.
She may be having a problem and doesnt want to be bothered right now.

I think he/she means to be alone .But if it keeps happening, I would suggest not calling at all.

Downtime - getting away from it all, shutting down, tuning out.

I think your friend means.....in this situation.......get off her case and give her some space. Down-time is time to yourself to relax or do whatever you please.
