what satellite does sky use as i have one of them sky cards for my pc and i trying to tune it in.

You cant be that poor if you have a sky box. You are in no danger, if anything it will be sheilding you from satellite signals. It makes no difference if the box is on or not. Sleep well, you will live to see another day.

Astra 2, I somehow don't think it's anything to do with computers.
You need a decoder box - either with a Dish 'fixed' -ie -pointing to Astra or a moving dish.
