Although in the strict sense of the term, 1000 megas would equal one giga, in the computer world, since everything works on the binary system, things are a tad askew. Kilo is 1024 instead of 1000 (because 1024 is a binary, or base 2, number... 2 raised to the 10th power to be exact).

So 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte
1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte
1024 gigabytes = 1 terrabyte

etc.

Hope this helps!
