If we took out all the Voting and had the champion selected and crowned on the field then you would see College football leap anything march madness could produce.

My proposal is to get all the independents in a conference.
The winner of each conference makes the playoffs.

Big East
Pac 10
Big 12
Big 10
SEC
ACC
WAC
MAC
Conf USA
Sun Belt
Mountain West

This will have a positive effect on recruiting for everyone. A kid will be able to stay home and play for the home state team because he knows that if they win they are in.

Get rid of the Polls. They suck.
My system is call "You win You are in"

OK, OK, here we go.............

First I will address the concerns some of you have about a playoff.

IT WILL MAKE THE REGULAR SEASON MEANINGLESS - and you cite the NCAA basketball tournament. First of all, there is no need to include 65 teams. I would make it "a tough to get in" 16 teams - the so called 5 BCS conference champions plus 11 at large teams to be voted in. The "at large" category takes care of the independents (ie - Notre Dame) and the so called mid majors (non BCS) conferences.

THE PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS WOULD LOSE MONEY - This is complete nonsense. A few years back, a corporation which wanted to promote such a 16 team tournament, offered about 3 to 4 times that amount of money that all the bowl games combined. The predominant reason it has not happened is that the bowl sponsors and the Bowl Committees would not get the money for their personal pockets. It's a matter of self interest, not what's best for the colleges or college football fans. By the way, the Bowl committees are a bunch of do nothings who because of connections sit around and collect allot of money for doing nothing special!

An NCAA football tournament would soon be more popular than the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl! We would finally have a true national champion. Under the current system, an undefeated team in a weak conference which plays a bunch of non-conference nobodies could easily be in the BCS title game.
Such a team might not even be one of the best 15 in the nation!

That is a great proposal, but not so fast my friend.

Independents like Notre Dame would never agree with that the amount of money they would loose would be ridiculous between shared revenue in the conference they would fall into along with media contracts.

Secondly many major corporations that sponsor the bowl games would pull out, in turn hurting many smaller schools such as Marshall and Utep.

My proposal would be to rank the teams throughout the year with the bcs and then take the top 25 teams and place them in a playoff bracket. (The #1 ranked team would have a bye the first round.) I would then have each game played at a bowl game sight. for example #2 vs. #24 at the Gmac bowl for a first round match up. As we get closer to the finals I would play at larger bowl sights ending with the last 6 games played at BCS bowl sights. with the championship game rotated between the Bcs sights each year.
This way each round could be sponsored by major corporations and nobody looses money.

I'm not so sure an all encompassing playoff system would help collage football. A playoff with a dozen or more teams would lessen the importance of regular season games. Since 65 teams make the basketball tournament, the regular season games really don't mean that much. How big is tomorrow's nite WV-L'ville game. Or OSU-Mich game in a few weeks. Some may consider the regular season in it's self as a playoff system.

That is a good system, they should go to it. But then again, you could have a team with 3 or 4 losses beat a tem with no losses and that would make a lot of "experts" mad. But who cares about them, right. They would never go to that because that would make all the sponsors mad because they would lose money. Great idea.

Fear is an evolutionary behavior conditioned into intelligent life. Without fear, animals would not recognize the impending danger of a predator or other aggressive animal. With too much fear, animals wouldn't be able to settle down for a proper meal without being spooked by something. So, to answer your question, fear is a very natural, environmentally-conditioned response to stimuli.

Never going to happen, way to much money in the bowls. Good idea though. I'm not sure if I follow your logic on recruiting though. If I'm a recruit in New Mexico and have New Mexico St and Texas looking at me, I know where I'm going.

I think that makes for a pretty fair system and should be tried by the BCS. Trying this for a year or two couldn't be any worse then what we currently have.

I agree with you that a playoff system would be ideal for fans, however it is not ideal for one thing that drives colleges and universities...MONEY!

Getting rid of bowls would get rid of a ton of money that colleges receive for their teams being awarded bowl bids. Not to mention money that sponsors pay to have their names attached to bowls.

Because of the economics of it I never see college going to a playoff system.
