Complementary angles sum to 90 degrees.
So the correct answer is 48 degrees.
Some of the posted answers are confusing
complementary angles with supplementary
angles. Supplementary angles sum to 180 degrees.

The answer is 48 degrees.

Complimentary angles are 2 angles which added together equal 90 degrees. So 90 - 42 = 48.

You've gotten 3 different answers so far. I'd be curious to know which one is correct. I do know that Ahwell cannot subtract!

138, 180 is the flat line, less the compliment angle of 42 leaves 138 degrees. (How did you get the little 0 degree sign?!)
I can subtract really, I just wrote 190 where I should have put 180 - sorry! Must say it's a long time since I did maths and I could well be wrong!

Ok, ok, I'm wrong!
