I am on the pill and take it regularly but everyone jokes that I'm a B*tch the week before, during and the week after my period, resulting in 12 weeks of niceness out of the year. What can I do to control my hormones and stop being a B*tch? Any over the counter drugs?

I have been reading this book called Menopause Without Medicine,
wanted to share something with you that I read today.

If you have emotional distress, what are the chances that you are
missing a vital vitamin or mineral in your diet? Check whether any of
the symptoms listed below are familiar to you:

- Vitamin B-1(thiamine): loss of appetite, depression, irritability,
memory loss, sensitivity to noise, inability to concentrate,
fatigue, reduced attention span.

- Vitamin B-3 (niacin): insomnia, nervousness, confusion, depression,
hallucination, loss of memory

- Vitamin B-6: anxiety, depression, irritability, insomnia

- Pantothenic acid: depression, inability to tolerate stress

- Vitamin B-12 (cobalamine): difficulty concentrating and remembering,
stuporous depression, severe agitation, hallucinations, manic
behavior

- Folic acid: irritabiity, weakness, apathy, hostility, anemia

- Vitamin C: increased stress and fatigue

_ Vitamin E: depression, lethargy

- Potassium: nervousness, irritability, mental disorientation

- Magnesium: paranoid psychosis

- Calcium: anxiety, neurosis, fatigue, insomnia, tension

- Zinc: anemia, poor mental function

- Iron: depression, lethargy, poor concentration, irritability,
decreased attention span, personality changes

- Essential fatty acid: anxiety, irritability, insomnia

The chemical makeup of the brain requires an ample and constant
supply of essential nutrients. Vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids,
and enyzymes are all interrelated, each dependent on the others for
absorption and utilization; moreover, a shortage of one vital element
can render all the others less effective. That is why nutritionists
urge people to eat a variety of nutrient-dense foods.

I do know from past research and personal experience that if you are
not taking a good multi-vitamin along with a mineral supplement it is
more difficult to get your hormones balanced and keep them there...

You need to cut down on your caffeine intake. Exercise doesn't sound very enticing when you feel that way but it does work by releasing all those "feel good" endorphins and also takes your mind off of those things that you think about that also make you feel bitchy. If you have a partner and haven't alienated them yet, sex always makes you better for a while. As far as over the counter drugs, St. John's Wort has a calming affect, as well as some herbal teas. My advice would be to go to a reputable health, vitamin store and talk them and explain your dilemma. They deal with treating your symptoms on a probably daily basis and can steer you in the right direction. Good luck!

First, get on board with one of the birth control pills that reduces your period to only a few per year. Being past menopause, I understand it from both. What got me through was to think before I speak. Is this me or the hormones speaking? Before you know it, it becomes habit both during and after your periods.

I have the same problem, but I haven't really figured out something that stops it completely yet. However, I have found out that by trying to relax and avoid people that tend to annoy you really helps. Take a bubble bath, light a candle, listen to calming music, read a book, just do something. Good luck.

When I was on the pill I was ok. Since dh had the big "v" and I haven't been taking it my moods went off the charts around my period. I started using a balancing creme made by Arbonne. anymore. It's a pump bottle - one pump is one application and you put it on your wrists or inner elbows. My family isn't afraid of me anymore and I don't feel so emotional.
