You see, the problem is that slavery of blacks in the United States ended about 140 years in the past. No one alive then is alive now. That means that no one who was ever an american slave or american slave owner is still around to be a victim or a perpetrator. Slavery may have been bad, but no one responsible for it is alive to be blamed.
Also, in saying 'You white peope would probably rather see blacks kill eachother than dwell on slavery', it seems you're being racist towards whites (which wouldn't surprise me). Remember, what we're trying for is equal freedoms for everyone, NOT extra freedoms for blacks, so it doesn't matter which direction the racism is in, it's still just as bad. You should be promoting the end of ALL racism, not trying to take revenge for something no modern white person ever did.

I personally have no problem with discussion of slavery.
But I dislike some assertions that all of us white people benefitted from it, though.
My first ancestor arrived as a poor Irish immigrant in 1860, and struggled with a small farm in Brooklyn, long after NY state had abolished slavery. Later-arriving ancestors were no better off.
My family has remained fairly poor, and got very few breaks in life. My sister was the first in our family to earn a BA and a MA, and the first to make any kind of wage above poerty or near-poverty, and that's been in recent years.
Learning? Great! Let's all learn. I'm all for that. And if there are other race- or class-based inequities that have continued since then (rhetorical "if," of course there have been), let's talk about them, too.
These transitional inequities are important to talk about, too. Without them, you lose a lot of white people's attention, as they tend to assume that you should have "caught up" by now.
But you say, "You white peope would probably rather see blacks kill eachother than dwell on slavery." That's BS - that shows YOUR racism.

I think dwelling on slavery is probably a good thing, especially if the teacher provides the whole story.
By dwelling on it, students will understand that white people didn't start slavery, it was the ruthless people of the African continent that provided the concept.
Once the students understand that then the whole idea of slavery as "whites oppressing blacks" and even the idea that white people "did it to them" becomes ridiculous.
So, yes, dwell on slavery, but don't make white people your only scapegoat.

Tell me something Black Atheist: Are you interested in anything else in life besides dwelling? Or feeling fascinated by subjects that others may feel are offensive? You must have no life at all! If you're a man do you have a woman? And you're a woman do you have a man? Or if you're gay, do you have a partner? Do you even have a life? Get a dog and take it to the park! Go to a movie! Maybe mingle at a party. Because your words read to me that you're in the library all day just thinking of what hateful books you can pull off the shelf! GET A LIFE SWEETIE! You might feel better! I know that misery loves company, but you're not about to drag me down with your tired words! Because I'm a beautiful black woman and I am very happy and I try to be that way everyday of my life!

well at least you dont make generalizations about white people. the only problem with dwelling on slavery is that black people still have a chip on their shoulder when no black person alive today was ever a slave. It happened 140 years ago! get over it. the fact remains that without slavery the black people in this country would be in africa, and probably alot worse off. I'm not a racist so please dont start, but in regards to the blacks alive today slavery was the best thing that could have happened for you.

I am not racist, I really have a great interest in history and black history has always been my favorite. I felt bad that people had to endure the angonies of not having their rights and their freedom, I just saw "Unchained Memories" and it was narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, have you seen this? Anyway, I am always learning different things and this video had alot of history to it. I would really like to see everyone live in peace and harmony, that would be a great thing, I don't want to see anyone get hurt, I am a peace loving person. Have a good day. :)

I agree with you when you say that it is OK to talk about it; but when you make comments like the ones you wrote above, it makes it difficult to empathize.
The "whites" tend to say that it was not them who did these things, but their great grandparents. In a way that is OK, but it does mean that it should be forgotten.
I would like to go further back in history in this subject. Slavery was not invented by the "whites". If you want to blame someone, you can start with the christians. The bible has a wealth of information on slaves, and it is not about freeing them. It's about telling slaves to accept their position in life, and work as hard as they can; even if their master is evil.
I know it was the "whites" that did it in America, but they just followed what their christian leaders did for centuries.

But sometimes dwelling on something especially something negative like slavery leads to anger, it would me. Let the past be past and let's make the present and future be something our children and grandchildren can be proud of.

It is obvious that you are an ignorant racist.
Are you aware that about 75% of the white people of European descent in the USA in 1776 were slaves or indentured servants? Are you aware that black people in Africa were then and still are today slaves of black people? Are you aware that people like you and Jessie Jackass (et al) keep black people ignorant and uneducated, so that the only jobs they can find is service type work. People like you would rather cry and moan about something that you are fabricating on a daily basis. You would rather complain than do something about it.
