It is now November, so only 7/8 weeks to go. I cannot afford to buy all of my presents out of one pay packet so have to plan ahead and start now (if not sooner). Also if I leave it to the last minute it becomes more stressful as their are more people in the shops and less things to buy. Can I assume that all the people who say no shopping should be done and no mention should be made of it until December are in fact all filthy rich with loads of time on their hands to do the shopping?

When hearing of other ppl getting ready for Christmas early it makes me feel inadequate as I won't have the time or the money to be dealing with it until December.

Also I quite enjoy late night shopping in December as a way of beginning to get into the mood for Christmas, then doing my wrapping on the Saturday before Christmas so that I can spend the following week visiting family to distribute the presents.

I think it can be quite an anti climax if too much effort and time is put into thinking about it all too early on. Although I do fully understand your reasoning behind doing it all early.

I guess the answer is that different things are best for different people. Getting ready early is right for you which is fine and getting ready later is right for me which is also fine.

I am a master of guilt.. what I would do is, yes, buy him a Christmas present, and when he is about to open it, look away, pretend to be pre-occupied, talk to someone else in the room, or just leave the room to use the restroom or get a drink... when he says thank you , you wont be there or you will be busy, keep it going as long as possible, when he trys to mention the gift again later, walk past like you have somewhere to be.. he will start to feel bad, guilt is a wonderful thing...

it would seem so.

like you i have to plan in advance. I've brought about half of the prezzies now. I tend to designate an afternoon to going round the town centre, and getting every catalogue i can lay my hands on. Then i list every think I'm going to get.

I check websites to see if i can find better deals and then i plan when I'm getting what according to mega day sales held at places like boots each year. I've all ready saved my self £30 and got two presents free thanks to the buy two get the third free deals. Plus i have have to ten pound vouchers to spend at boots and £10 in point on my advantage card. This years i may just be able to buy for everyone and get the food in for under £200.

No I think your assumption is quite wrong. I for one hate talking about Christmas shopping so early because I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to afford Christmas this year. talking about ti simply reinforces the stress I feel - I'd live to live in denial for as long as possible please even if that means rushing out on Christmas eve.

i start buying presents now, and some of the more expensive ones i've already bought. the people against this thing are usually men, in their 40s with a wife and kids who have no concept of a world outside their own.

In our family we draw names- so we don't have to buy for all the kids, nieces, nephews, and all- So I only need to buy 1 person-when I used to buy for everybody- I would buy an item here and there all year long- that made it much easier- I had a little notepad and wrote down the names= and what I bought for them- D

I always put my shopping off until next month, and trust me I am by no means rich. That's a really broad generalization.
