im going to the hills with a few of friends and we want to go hiking so what shoes should i wear?
pumps, boots, flip flops, sneakers or flats and if you know of any other types then go ahead!

Hiking boots. All other shoes will have poor traction and be majorly uncomfortable. Hiking isn't about being stylish, so forget the idea of pumps or boots with heels. You're there for the scenery so it's worth the frumpy hiking boots. Have fun.

nothing that looks good and has no traction... tennis shoes are a bare minimum... hiking boots are a ideal shoe for any sort of long walks, they provide comfort, traction, and support just in case you fall you are less likely to pull/sprain something. Just make sure you break the boot in a bit around the house (1 hr a day for a week) or otherwise you may get blisters on a trail. Have fun.

There are good quality hiking boots out there for a reasonable price. Pick ones with a high top and waterproof. Wear two pair of socks with them, the sox next to your foot should be nylon or some other synthetic and the next layer, depending on how cold it is, should be cotton or wool. The way this works is that the nylon sock lets the moisture go to the next layer of socks and keeps your feet dry next to your skin, more comfortable. The shoes are sturdy enough to climb rocks and uneven terrain. Forget glamour, although there are some really good looking ones out there for a price $$. By the way, stay away from snakes which look dead and deflated, they aren't. This is from my experiences as a hiker for twenty years.
