It depends on your time horizon.

Time Deposits are reasonable for short periods for risk averse investors. They are a poor choice for long term investing.

If you are likely to want the money in the next 24 months, term deposits aren't bad.

2-10 years, I'd invest primarily in a global bond mutual fund - with low fees.

10-20, a mix of global bond and global equity funds.

Over 20 years, 80% or more in global equities.

I don't know what funds are available where you live. An inexpensive passive fund that replicates an index (i.e. the Morgan Stanley All Country World for stocks, or the Lehman Brothers Global Aggregate for bonds) is not a bad idea if you don't know what fund to pick within an asset class otherwise.

In Asia, I would invest in real estate.
