About the only thing a degree in English is good for is teaching. If you enjoy teaching, and like English and Literature, this is a good fit for you.
You might consider journalism or communications along with an English minor, or make it a double major to open more fields to you.
If you enjoy languages in general, you might pursue a course in foreign languages. The FBI/CIA/NSA pay big bucks for certain languages now, such as Arabic, Russian, and Chinese as well as many others. You could also work as an interpreter, book translator, and many other jobs .... and of course, you can always teach with this type of degree.
You may also consider taking a lot of creative writing courses with your English degree and become a novelist, short story writer, and/or poet.
There are many opportunities for someone in the field of language. What I tell my daughters is to figure out what they really love to do and choose that. Money is important, but if you are going to work 40+ hrs a week for the rest of your life, you should be doing something you love.
Good Luck!

You have some great answers already but don't forget TV and film script writing, writing advertising copy (very well paid), writing foreign language textbooks and business courses, writing telesales scripts with or without translation into other languages, educational psychology is also well paid and you could start in that with a degree in English.

Hi!
You could become a teacher here to teach English or a foreign language, live and teach abroad, you could become an etymologist (studies the origin of words), become a translator, the world is your oyster.

being waiting to communicate and not study/write is extra uncomplicated than you think of at present. A Cantonese mom-tongue learnt someplace else different than HK will needless to say carry forth awkwardness while conversing with HK locals. yet no concerns, as maximum HKers have a sturdy carry close of English. Cantonese getting to grasp textile are no longer common to hit upon, yet perhaps you should evaluation from listening to Cantonese song or staring at Cantonese dramas/video clips?
