My 10-year-old daughter was Dorothy, carrying Otto instead of Toto (her story was that Toto ran away & was hit by a car - her idea) her basket held the candy, my 9-year-old son was #27 Larry Johnson (Go Chiefs!!) & carried a water cooler for his candy, and my 21-month-old was an adorable little frog - he carried a green gift bag w/ frogs & green & yellow polka-dots all over.

They were adorable...of course!! :)

Oh, yeah...and I was Jaquelyn Turn-Brewer...Glamour Witch! ;)

My three year old daughter dressed up as Dora the Explorer. She got the moves down pretty good. Say "Trick or Treat" and then spin so the backpack faced the person with the candy. After she felt some pressure on the backpack she would spin back around and say "thank you."

I on the other hand dressed as a 6-foot 2-inch faerie called Princess Wildflower. Quite a site as I have a beard and moustache. Came in handy as the wings (dragonfly type) created a buffer zone between my daughter and other trick or treaters.

My kids were two versions of Link, from "The Legend of Zelda." My son (10) was Red Link (it's the suit he wears when he goes into a volcano), my daughter (15) was in the classic green outfit.

My wife made both their costumes -- she does costuming for the high-school drama class and for our community theater, so these were awesome, with vinyl belts and shoulder-harnesses, gauntlets, tunics made out of red or green velveteen, and of course those long conical caps that Link wears.

With both of them in matching costumes in red and green, though, but clutching broadswords (sorry, Master Swords) and shields, I told them they looked like Santa's Elves From Hell.

I think they liked that.

Me, I just wore all black, including my "Jack The Pumpkin King" T-shirt. I have a black Kangol knitted hat, though, and was prepared -- if anybody asked me what I was dressed up as for Hallowe'en I was going to turn the hat around backwards and say, "I'm Samuel L. Jackson, and you can just get these fuzzle-whizzing snakes off my baggle-fragging airplane!"

I enjoyed the thrill of decididing what to gown up as, then the journey of parading around ours and different neighborhoods exploring and staring at all of the cool decorations. ok, lower back then (the 70's) there wasn't plenty else to get different than for candy or caramel apples. If youre searching for suggestions...dollar shops are loaded with plastic toys, jewelry, stickers, pencils, etc.
