You can't! They need to go to a rehab center to get professional help. Crack is one of the worse habits to kick and the center will know the best way to treat them.

In my own personal experience (being a recovering addict) I was the only person who could help me stop using. You could try an intervention, but I don't know if that would've worked for me. Sometimes people have to go through what they have to go through to get to a certain point. It is necessary that he hits his own rock bottom before he gets help. If he doesn't hit a rock bottom (losing his job, his wife, his house, his kids, his car, his health, etc.) he may never see what the drug is doing to him.

It is a hard thing to do all alone. He/she is going to need professional help and continued support.
You can arrange for the intervention and be there for him/her as support.
You sound like a good friend and they are luck to have you.
